Executive Director Aaron Grizzell Issues a Statement on answering the call to secure the fundamental right to vote.

Aaron Grizzell, executive director of the Northern California Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Foundation, addressed the call to focus on Voting Rights and the passage and enactment of voting rights legislation by the 2022 federal holiday in honor of Dr. King.

“Our 2022 theme, Toward Justice, addresses the effort to call on Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.”

The Northern California Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Foundation was founded out of a call by local faith, civic, political, and business leaders to continue the work begun by the late Dr. Coretta Scott King in San Francisco in 1985 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his work on the newly enacted federal holiday.

Grizzell stated that “today, we again witness the starkness of evil intentions by forces opposed to the fundamental right of every American citizen. With more restrictive voting laws specifically design to suppress the vote of our Black and Brown communities, we must not allow these acts of evil to slow the march toward true justice. We must continue the difficult work of securing the right to vote. So, we will organize, march, and use our every effort to protect this right.”

“We are standing up a landing page with resources to learn about how to stay involved and make your voice heard on voting rights.”
