Claire Brown
Clair Brown was educated and Wellesley College and the University of Maryland, where she completed her PhD in economics in 1973.
She arrived at Berkeley that same year as an assistant professor.Brown's early research focused on employment disparities by gender and race, role of unemployment insurance, and women in the workplace. Her current research focues on the global labor market for high-tech workers, the global competitive advantage of China, India and the US in the semiconductor industry, and the impact of education and immigration policies on engineers' employment and earnings.Professor Brown is the Director of the Center for Work, Technology and Society, and past Director of the Institute of Industrial Relations. She is an Omron Fellow at the Doshisha Institute of Technology in Japan. Professor Brown has a new book coming out soon, Buddhist Economics (link is external).
